What is AmeriCorps*VISTA?
AmeriCorps*VISTA helps communities implement grassroots solutions designed to alleviate poverty. Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965, the program places individuals at nonprofit organizations and public agencies across America.
What do VISTA members do?
Among other activities, AmeriCorps*VISTA members, who serve full time for a year, recruit community volunteers, raise funds, help manage projects, and otherwise build the capacity of non-profit organizations to become sustainable.
What are the benefits of joining VISTA?
VISTA benefits all who join. Recent graduates gain the kind of real-world experience they can’t find in a typical entry-level job. Experienced adults apply their skills and knowledge to serious social problems and discover previously untapped strengths.
Benefits for a year of full-time VISTA service include:
- Your choice of the $4,725 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or $1,200 post-service stipend
- Living allowance
- Healthcare
- Childcare assistance
- Student loan forbearance or deferment
